Midwest Fashion Week seems really different/greatly improved!

Loyal followers will notice that this year Midwest Fashion Week's website had improved 10-fold. Also, "Midwest" is now spelled as one word instead of two, as it so stubbornly (and erroneously) was in the past.

With these improvements comes founder Berny Martin's new business partner, Sola Adelowo of ImageCUBE.

Aside from the aesthetic changes I mentioned above, she and Berny have made some conceptual changes to the programming, which is listed below.

"We're focusing on connecting people with fashion in ways they would normally socialize," said Adelowo, "If the people speak food, we speak food. If the people speak football, we speak football."

Shop MidwestTM

The purpose of Shop MidwestTM is to support retail and boutique venues while consumers experience an amazing shopping event and MFW promotional savings. Retailers are encouraged to: (1) Host an event, such as a customer appreciation party, new collection debut, or featured guest designer, at their store on Saturday, March 12th; and/or (2) Promote an item or conduct a sale during the week of Midwest Fashion Week.

Children's Fashion Show & Sunday Brunch

This is a fun-filled event for families and friends. Celebrate the joy of being a child through a colorful presentation of contemporary children's fashion. Monday Night FashionTM: Where Sports and Fashion Collide

Monday Night FashionTM is a sports themed and male-activity fashion event that will benefit Down Syndrome Indiana. The honorary chairs are former IU Head Coach Bill Lynch and Ball State assistant coach Bobby Lynch. The featured activities may include football-themed games, virtual racing, golf simulations, liquor tasting, and cigar lounge. The runway fashion show will include active and sportswear designs for men and women; models will include professional athletes. Since this is an after work networking event, local radio stations will likely broadcast this event live.

Culture, Fashion, & Style in the Workplace

Through this lunch forum the International Center of Indianapolis will host a panel discussion that highlights the importance of personal style in cross-generational & cross-cultural workplace environments. Panelists will explore topics such as: (1) How the definition of "professional" varies culturally and generationally; (2) How personal style and cultural & generational identity impacts creativity/innovation, career advancement, and the sophistication & global quotient of Indiana in the world economy; (3) Tips for encouraging and supporting personal style in establishing an inclusive workplace environment. Guests will also experience an exhibition of contemporary workplace fashions that demonstrate the authenticity of various cultural identities, body types, generational perspectives, and industry roles

DSI Fashion Gala: "Our Time To Shine"

Down Syndrome Indiana will host the closing gala for the Midwest Fashion Week. At this black tie affair the works of four designers will be featured in a runway fashion show. The honorary chairs include former IU Head Coach Bill Lynch, Ball State assistant coach Bobby Lynch, and Congressman Andre Carson. The audience will include the boutique owners and retail store managers from Shop MidwestTM. The night will include celebrity guests and musical talent for entertainment. The host will be Andi Hauser of IndyStyle (WISHTv)
